CultureShift is a multi-faceted initiative designed to support young artists and leaders as they use arts and culture to shift narratives, break cycles of oppression, and drive meaningful social change.
At its core, CultureShift fosters a new generation of young artists and leaders who use their creative talents to reshape their communities, reclaim their narratives, and reimagine a more just and inclusive future. The program provides youth with the space, resources, and guidance to turn artistic expression into activism and cultural impact.
Art Starts is committed to creating a safe and inclusive space for racialized youth, centering their voices and experiences. CultureShift equips young visionaries with the confidence, skills, and tools to not only imagine change—but to lead it.
CORE COMPONENTS
Youth Mentorship Program: From Ideas to Impact
A hands-on incubator for emerging young creatives
CultureShift’s Youth Mentorship Program is a leadership incubator for a cohort of 10 young artists and changemakers. Through a structured series of workshops, mentorship, and project funding ($2500), participants will develop and execute their own art-based community projects.
Guest Speaker Series: Learning From the Trailblazers
Real conversations with creatives who are shifting culture
Throughout the year, CultureShift will host a Guest Speaker Series, featuring industry professionals, activists, and creative leaders who are using art, design, and storytelling to disrupt harmful narratives and build a more equitable world.
Open Workshops & Immersive Creative Labs
Hands-on experiences in creative activism
CultureShift offers two immersive workshops open to youth beyond the leadership cohort. These interactive sessions provide young creatives with tangible tools, collaborative spaces, and artistic challenges that push them to think critically about the role of art in community transformation.
Youth Forum: Gathering for young visionaries
The Youth Forum is the culminating event of CultureShift—a high-energy symposium bringing together young leaders, artists, and community members to discuss how arts and culture drive social transformation.
